Obedient to her parents, Rita, who wanted to enter convent life, married an abusive and rebellious man against her will. With her devotion and kindness, Rita was able to pacify her husband Paulo, and they had two children. One day, Paulo was murdered on the roadside, and her two sons vowed revenge. Unable to dissuade them from their intentions, Rita fervently prayed to God to take them away so they wouldn't stain their lives with murder. Her prayers were answered, and Rita, now alone in the world, tried to enter convent life but was denied. Rita then prayed intensely to her three patron saints, Saint John the Baptist, Saint Augustine, and Saint Nicholas of Tolentino.
