Portuguese Angel Rosary – Glass

The Portuguese Angel Rosary – Glass is a commemorative rosary marking the 100th anniversary of the angel's appearance to the shepherd children. The central metal loop features a commemorative medal of the angel's appearance. The metal crucifix of the rosary is a special edition (1916-2016) with a raised image of the angel of Portugal.

This rosary is made of white and blue glass beads (separating each decade). The Portuguese Angel Rosary – Glass measures 47 cm from one end to the crucifix. Each Portuguese Angel Rosary – Glass comes with a box. About the Angel of Portugal: The Angel of Portugal, also known as the Guardian Angel of Portugal, Angel of Peace, or Custodial Angel of Portugal, is one of the designations for the Archangel Saint Michael representing Portugal's spiritual essence with an image of an angel protecting the nation.

King D. Manuel II of Portugal requested from Pope Julius II in 1504 the establishment of a feast day for the Custodial Angel of the Kingdom, an ancient cult in Portugal. This feast was to be held on the third Sunday of July. Its devotion declined over time but reappeared in 1952 when, at the request of Pope Pius XII, it was reintroduced into the Portuguese liturgical calendar to commemorate Portugal Day on June 10. The Appearances – His first appearance is said to have occurred during the Battle of Ourique, which resulted in a great victory for the forces of D. Afonso Henriques over the Muslim invaders, allowing for the self-proclamation of the King of Portugal. – In her Memoirs, Sister Lucia recounts that between April and October 1916, during the Fatima apparitions, an angel appeared to the three shepherd children three times, twice at Cabeço and once near the well in their backyard in Fatima, inviting them to pray and do penance, and identifying himself as the “Angel of Portugal.” The Angel of Portugal is said to have taught the children two prayers known as the Prayers to the Angel.
