Many events happen unexpectedly and make us believe they occurred by magic. In With the Aid of High Magic, Gerald Gardner explores this through a novel with a plot that involves Witchcraft and great mysteries of magical practices.

This work tells the story of brothers Jan and Olaf Bonder, whose family fortune was ruined due to the assassination of their grandfather and the takeover of their fortified house by a Norman, Fitz-Urse. Jan, the older brother, cannot accept the fate reserved for his family and, being very ambitious, convinces young Olaf to help him in the quest to restore the wealth, lands, and castle that should rightfully belong to them.

To achieve this, they seek the assistance of Thur Peterson, a doctor and great expert in High Magic. In this endeavor, the three of them get involved in adventures, battles, and magical rituals, leading them to a witch who will play a significant role in realizing their goals.

BIOGRAPHY

Gerald Brosseau Gardner was born in Blundellands, England, on June 13, 1884. Due to suffering from asthma since childhood, he was allowed by his parents to travel with his nurse, Josephine, throughout Europe during the winter, where he secured his first job at a tea plantation.

Years later, he traveled to the Orient, where he dedicated himself to studying ancient cultures and their spiritual beliefs. He worked in Borneo and Malaysia for three years, employed by the British government in the Far East as a customs officer, inspector in rubber plantations, and establishments dealing with opium. With rubber, he made quite a bit of money, allowing him to invest in his hobby: Archaeology.

In 1927, Gardner married an Englishwoman named Donna and finally returned to England, where he met people who introduced him to Witchcraft. In New Forest, he participated in a secret occult group of Freemasons, the Crotona Fellowship, with whom he learned part of his knowledge.

He edited his last book in 1959 and passed away on February 12, 1964. Among his acclaimed works are Witchcraft Today and The Meaning of Witchcraft, both published in Portuguese by Madras Editora.

In With the Aid of High Magic, Gardner uses the pseudonym Scire and revisits Witchcraft, showing how the use of Magic can resolve important issues in the life of its practitioner.
