Virgin of Guadalupe - 20cm

Learn about the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe: In 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to an indigenous man in what is now Mexico City, requesting the construction of a temple to demonstrate and offer her love, compassion, aid, and protection to the people.

“I am your merciful Mother, the Mother of all who live united on this land, of every human kind, of those who love me, of those who weep to me, of those who have faith in me. Here I will hear your cries and your sorrows, and I will remedy and alleviate your sufferings, your needs, and your misfortunes [...].”

During the second encounter, the Blessed Virgin asked Juan Diego to gather roses in his cloak and present them to the Archbishop of Mexico, Dom Juan de Zumárraga, as proof of the apparitions.

When Juan unfolded his cloak with the roses before the bishop, an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was imprinted on it!

The bishop began to believe in the apparitions and ordered a large church to be built at the site indicated by Our Lady. Juan Diego’s cloak, with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe imprinted on it, was taken there to be venerated. Guadalupe means “Perfected Virgin” in the Aztec language.

Annually, the church receives millions of devotees, and the miraculous portrait continues to intrigue viewers, perplex artists, and astonish scientists.
