The Turkish Eye (sometimes called the Greek eye) protects against the evil eye, jealousy, and envy. It can be found throughout Turkey, Greece, and various Mediterranean countries.

In Mediterranean countries, it is used as a personal amulet in bracelets, earrings, and necklaces, or as a protective charm hung in homes, offices, or cars.

MEANING OF THE TURKISH EYE

Its Turkish name for protection against the evil eye and jealousy is nazar boncuk (Nazar-bad eye, boncuk-amulet). The Turkish Eye is often referred to as the Eye of Fatima, named after the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, and is combined with the Fatima Hand amulet to enhance its effects. Though it can take various patterns and designs, the Turkish Eye is typically composed of a dark blue circle, sphere, or drop shape with a white and light blue eye overlay. The Turkish Eye amulet appeared during the development of glassmaking in the Mediterranean around the 16th century BC. Legend has it that fair-haired, blue-eyed men could be malevolent and send negative vibrations through their gaze. When the Turkish Eye breaks or cracks, it has fulfilled its protective function and must be replaced.
