ur lenormand – primal lenormand

The Ur Lenormand, also known as the Primal Lenormand, is an accurate reproduction of the original 1799 Lenormand deck, authorized by the British Museum.

These cards were edited by Alexander Glueck. This deck was originally conceived as a social game – The Game of Hope – where a die was used and it could be played for money.

About 50 years after falling out of use as a social game, the game reappeared this time as an oracle for card readings and divination.

This deck is the original set of cards that gave rise to all subsequent Lenormand decks (also called gypsy decks).

The Ur-Lenormand deck consists of 36 cards measuring 8cm x 11cm, slightly larger than common Lenormand decks. The deck comes with a box, an instruction booklet with the rules of the original game, and instructions for contemporary oracle readings. The instruction booklet is in German, English, and French. The cards are of good quality, being both sturdy and flexible, making them easy to shuffle. The print quality is excellent, capturing all the details and imperfections of the original deck.

This deck is particularly suitable for anyone interested in or fond of gypsy decks or Lenormand decks. This Primal Lenormand deck has a special charm of its own and, as a divination deck, it offers the same precision and similar readings to any contemporary Lenormand deck.

About The Game of Hope

This game was created by Kaspar Hechtel and published in Nuremberg in 1799. It is a social game, a game about life situations with their meanings and variations. All the cards and representations of the Lenormand deck are featured in this game. The objective of the game is to progress through various stages of life and accumulate points. The winner is the first to reach card 35 (the symbol of hope) without exceeding it.

The structure of the game (the path of life, hope, inconveniences) allows its use as an oracle, even almost half a century later.
