Selenite is a variety of gypsum, often found in natural rods or towers. It is a light, slightly flexible stone with low hardness and can be easily scratched with a fingernail. Like other varieties of gypsum, such as selenite and alabaster, selenite is a hydrated calcium sulfate compound.
