ABOUT THE DREAM CATCHER

\n

The dream catcher originated with the Ojibwa people, a Native American tribe. A dream catcher consists of a circular hoop adorned with a spider web-like net decorated with feathers and various beads. In the Ojibwe language, the dream catcher is called asabikeshiinh (spider) or bawaajigenagwaagan (dream snare). According to Ojibwe oral tradition, there is a legend about the origin of the dream catcher: It tells the story of a spider woman named Asibikaashi who cared for Ojibwe children and those in need. However, this task became difficult as the Ojibwe people began to spread across American territories. For this reason, mothers and grandmothers started weaving magical nets to help ward off bad dreams and nightmares. Over time, this amulet evolved into a pendant used in necklaces and bracelets, becoming a symbol of permanent protection, not just during sleep.
