The Turkish Eye is often referred to as the Eye of Fatima, named after the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, and it is combined with the Fatima Hand amulet to enhance its effects. Although it can take various patterns and designs, the Turkish Eye is typically composed of a dark blue circle or sphere with a white and light blue eye overlay. The Turkish Eye amulet appeared during the development of glassmaking in the Mediterranean around 16 BC. Legend has it that fair-haired blue-eyed men could be malevolent and send negative vibrations with their gaze. When the Turkish Eye breaks or cracks, it has fulfilled its protective function and must be replaced.
