The Tarot of Marseille

\n

The Tarot of Marseille is likely the most popular and well-known tarot in the world, being the deck most commonly used for tarot initiation. The reproductions follow the classic version of the Tarot of Marseille by Nicolas Conver from the 18th century.

\n

This Tarot of Marseille deck from the renowned AGM card factory consists of 78 cards and a booklet of instructions.

\n

Illustrator Otto Spalinger used new color tones to revitalize this classic tarot deck, adding more life to the pale colors of the old illustrations. The instruction book is translated into Portuguese, and the cards measure 12 cm in length by 7 cm in width.

\n

In its layout, the Tarot of Marseille can be divided into major and minor arcana, completing a total of 78 cards or laminae.

\n

The minor arcana (less revealing) are composed of four suits of fourteen cards each (from Ace to Ten, plus the "Court" represented by the Page (or Knight), Jack, Queen, and King). The minor arcana can also be divided according to alchemical symbols (Earth, Air, Water, Fire) or the personal planes (mental, spiritual, emotional, and material).

\n

The Major Arcana or Triumphs are divided into 22 cards or symbols, with their names and symbolism possibly varying slightly depending on the deck (the card of the "Fool" has no number or is presented as zero): Arcanum 0 – The Fool / Arcanum I – The Magician / Arcanum II – The High Priestess / Arcanum III – The Empress / Arcanum IV – The Emperor / Arcanum V – The Pope / Arcanum VI – The Lovers / Arcanum VII – The Chariot / Arcanum VIII – Justice / Arcanum IX – The Hermit / Arcanum X – The Wheel of Fortune / Arcanum XI – Strength / Arcanum XII – The Hanged Man / Arcanum XIII – Death / Arcanum XIV – Temperance / Arcanum XV – The Devil / Arcanum XVI – The Tower / Arcanum XVII – The Star / Arcanum XVIII – The Moon / Arcanum XIX – The Sun / Arcanum XX – Judgment / Arcanum XXI – The World While the major arcana evoke strong and powerful philosophical and spiritual reflections, indicating immediate possible interpretations and meanings, the minor arcana refer to daily life and the immediate. These minor arcana are important for more precise answers or to try to "understand" the exact and detailed meaning for interpreting the major arcana.
